Well...Thursday was the day of Brian's scheduled heart catheterization. The procedure went well, and the cardiologist discovered that the fistula is not the cause of the heart issue. He feels that the root cause is high blood pressure. For now the plan will be a more aggressive approach to controlling the blood pressure. The cardiologist is "cautiously optimistic" that if the blood pressure is controlled for at least 3 months the heart function may improve.
Now for the scary part...it seems that Brian was given too much IV fluid (for a kidney patient) prior to and during the procedure. In addition to the contrast used during the catheterization, it was too much for his body to handle. While recovering from the procedure his vital signs started going in all the wrong directions. The fluid overload caused his heart to beat waaay too fast, his blood pressure to go waaay too high, and made it nearly impossible for him to breathe. After a lot of very fast action on the part of the cardiologist and nephrologist who happened to be in the hallway (no accident, in my book!), the cause was determined. After 2 extra dialysis treatments on Thursday night and Friday morning, Brian is pretty much back to himself (although very weak and tired). Please pray that the next couple of months are boooring ones for us...enough excitement already!!!

Dawn and Brian,
ReplyDeleteYou have been through so much. I pray that God will look down on you with love and peace and bring calm into your lives. I pray that His healing hand will wave over Brian and bring his heart functions and blood pressure to normal. I pray that you two grow old together, enjoying life and family together.
Oh that is scary stuff! My thoughts and prayers are with you all, and I hope Brian is feeling better and stronger in no time.
ReplyDeletePapa needs to be there to support you. Hopefully it will be soon. In the mean time about all we can do is pray that God will lay his hand on Brian.
